2004 ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award
ACM SIGMETRICS is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. K.C. Sevcik, of University of Toronto as the recipient of the 2004 ACM SIGMETRICS Achievement Award in recognition of a career devoted to sustained, long-lasting, and high-impact contributions to computer system performance evaluation in the technical, leadership, and mentoring dimensions.
Prof. Sevcik received his Ph.D. in Information Science from University of Chicago in 1971. Immediately after receiving his PhD., he joined the Computer Systems Research Group (CSRG) at the University of Toronto. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at U. Toronto. During this time, he served as Chair of CSRG and the Department of Computer Science.
Prof. Sevcik is an ACM Fellow, and has received the IFIP Silver Core Award and the ITAC Award for Excellence in Research from the Information Technology Association of Canada. He has been the Chair of the IFIP WG 7.3, served on the Board of Directors of ACM SIGMETRICS, as Editor of Performance Evaluation and Information Processing Letters, served as General Chair of Performance'80 and Program Chair of the 1988 ACM SIGMETRICS Conference, and served on nearly 50 conference/workshop program committees. He has published extensively in the areas of performance evaluation, parallel processing and database systems and has graduated over twenty PhDs in these areas.
