Travel Grants for Students

Student Grants Program

SIGMETRICS is pleased to continue its practice of offering student travel grants to subsidize travel costs for attending the conference. The number and amounts of the awards will depend on the number of applications received, available funds, and proximity of applicants to the venue. The grant money may be awarded in the form of registration fee waivers and/or defrayment of travel or lodging costs.

Award decisions will be made by a committee consisting of the student activities chair and the general chairs. Our primary criteria will be the student's reason for attending SIGMETRICS and overall research promise as indicated by the CV/resume and advisor recommendation. Preference will be given to students whose advisors will commit to attending the conference.

How to apply

To apply for a travel grant, please send an email to the student activities chair, Carlee Joe-Wong (cjoewong@andrew.cmu.edu), with "SIGMETRICS travel grant application" in the subject line. Your email should include an attached CV/resume (PDF format preferred), or pointer to your website. Please also attach a PDF document that includes the following:

  1. A short paragraph explaining why you want to attend SIGMETRICS 2018, including whether you will be presenting a paper at the conference or affiliated workshops.
  2. A statement on whether you have attended SIGMETRICS in the past, and if so, whether you received a conference travel grant.
  3. A short paragraph from your advisor stating that you are a student in good standing and whether your advisor will attend the conference, should you receive a travel grant.
  4. Your physical address and email.
  5. Estimate of costs for attending SIGMETRICS 2018 (e.g., hotel, flight, and registration fee). We will use this to determine the amount of your grant, if you are selected.
  6. Any proof of ACM SIGMETRICS student membership, if applicable. Note: If you are not already a member, it will cost you USD $19 to become a student member of ACM and USD $10 to become a student member of SIGMETRICS.
  7. Optionally, you may indicate your gender and ethnicity. This will be used to collect statistics on the diversity of travel grant applicants and awardees.
